Overview

Educational psychology aims to use research and theory to analyse real-world situations, develop appropriate interventions and practice and evaluate outcomes in educational settings. This Certificate gives an advanced understanding of the discipline of psychology in an educational setting and its application to the educational development of children in the early years.

Learners will study how psychological ideas are applied to understanding children’s learning, curriculum development, assessment and the application of interventions in educational settings. It will provide learners with concepts and critical perspectives to enable them to visualise how they can contribute to best policy, practice and research in their sector.

The emphasis will be on theoretically informed analysis and evidence-based interventions and practice. Learners will be equipped to explore both National and International Frameworks that focus on child participation and voice, such as the National Participation Framework and the Assessment of Need in Special Education, and how future services might be shaped to respond to the needs of children while also reflecting on their own practice and international best practice.
