Research Interests

Interested in muscle and tendon physiology, specifically on the impact of training and nutrition interventions on muscle and tendon properties. Research experience in physiological assessment of strength and power in Premier league football and Intercounty Gaelic football.

Currently working on PhD research degree at Liverpool John Moore’s University on the influence of Vitamin C enriched collagen supplementation and resistance exercise on muscle-tendon unit physiology. Also interested in the impact of ageing and menstrual cycle status influence acute physiological responses to feeding and exercise interventions.

Experience in supervising postgraduate students with one student supervised to MRes. completion, and two ongoing projects. One of these projects is examining fatigue during intensified competition periods for team sports with a specific focus on professional Ice Hockey (co-supervised with Mr. Declan Browne). The other project is an effort to examine the influence of a hydrolyzed collagen protein supplement combined with resistance exercise on performance and clinical markers of tendon health in middle-aged men (co-supervised with Dr. Paula Rankin).
